Rabo-Giant Off-Road Team rides on Vredestein tyres

Vredestein becomes equipment and shirt sponsor for new branch of Rabo Cycle Racing Team

The newly created Rabo-Giant Off-Road Team will be riding on tyres made by the Dutch manufacturer Vredestein. That has been agreed between Vredestein and Rabobank, so once again in 2010 Vredestein will be represented in the most exciting professional cycle racing competitions. The racers of Katusha (ProTour) and Ceramica Flaminia (ProContinental), among others, have already been using Vredestein tyres for some years with great success.

Marc Ganzeboom, manager of Vredestein Two Wheel Tyres, explains the collaborative partnership: "Our new MTB tyres have been developed in collaboration with professional mountain bikers. We have tested them intensively and taken the experiences of the professionals very heavily into account in our product development. This year our range is complete and we are demonstrating our ability to supply top equipment in that segment too, so that we really count. We are convinced that sponsoring the Rabo-Giant Off-Road Team will be an enormous help in generating an even stronger reputation and brand awareness in the MTB segment. With the aid of the riders' input, we will also be able to develop our range still further. So we will reap many benefits on different fronts from this collaborative partnership."

Vredestein: a well-known name on the cycle racing circuit
Vredestein can draw on a wealth of experience as a manufacturer of high-end tyres. Indeed, in 2010 it will be one hundred years since the Dutch brand first began producing bicycle tyres. In both the MTB and racing segments, numerous prizes have been won at the very highest level on Vredestein tyres in recent decades: world titles, Olympic medals, but also victories in classics, semi-classics and grand tours.

Rabo-Giant Off-Road Team as a breeding ground for success
The Rabo Cycle Racing Team has had an off-road team since 1 January. This team is headed by Jan ten Tusscher and has 2 specific team leaders: Leo van Zeeland for the mountain bikers and Richard Groenendaal for the cyclocross riders. Several big names have already been signed: Emil Lindgren, Fabian Giger, Adam Craig and Henk Jaap Moorlag for the mountain bike team and Gerben de Knegt and Bart Aernouts as cyclocross riders.

Besides creating top teams, another of Rabo's goals is to encourage and support young Dutch talent. "Creating this off-road team is the next logical step for us. It fits in perfectly with Rabobank's philosophy of both supporting all branches of cycle racing, and offering young racers from our native soil the time and the environment to develop their talents as fully as possible, so that in this case we offer them every opportunity to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London", explains managing director Harold Knebel. "A reshuffle of budgets has made this step possible, and in Jan ten Tusscher we have found a serious and like-minded partner. Jan has many years of experience in leading successful teams, both nationally and internationally, and many of our present racers have ridden for him at some point."
